ve been enjoying the historical items from the committee meetings and other sources and thought it may be of interest to old and newer members to look at our earlier history in Durham County Youth Choir days. I know a few of you have seen some of the pictures I carry around from that time and I've added one here taken at Llangollen International Eisteddfod in the late 1960s. The choir made three visits to the competition there in the Youth Choir class (once in the Folksong class too) and on one visit was fifth overall and joint top British Youth Choir. As a slightly different quiz, you may wish to try to find at least 10 people in the photo who have been associated with Argus at some time over the last 40 years and there may be a few others that some of you recognise too. Also in quiz mode, I've added an MP3 file which has a few clips from a concert at CLS Salvation Army in early December 1972. There are about 40 seconds from each of three soloists - again they've been with Argus in recent years. Can you spot who they are? The last clip is a reminder of some Christmas music which Argus sang just last year and provides us with the thought that we may be able to get together to sing some songs like this before too long (well, we are passed the midsummer equinox and the nights are pulling in :) My apology for the quality, but it was originally done using a free standing reel-to-reel tape machine perched on a pew a few rows from the front, then transferred to cassette from which I have made a digital copy!!
Back row - standing: Michael Beaney (3rd from left), David Harris (12th from left), Sue Tobin (13th from left), Richard Kasher (14th from left), Derek Jago (5th from right), Ian Murray (4th from right ), Peter Barker (3rd from right).
Middle row - kneeling up: Janet McGrath (6th from right), Jean Graham (3rd from right). Front row - kneeling down: Pam Kasher (6 from left). Recording Soloists: Michael Beaney, Val Revely, David Harris.
