I'm starting to read through the old Argus Singers' minutes since Jean was kind enough to pass on all the historical paperwork she'd collated and archived when I took over from her as secretary :) So, if we want to "fix a date" for the existence of the Argus Singers we can see that:
By the next meeting 30th May 1981
... Don't worry I'm not going to report the contents of ALL minutes :) In these uncertain times it’s good to have some positive news to share with you.
Like Judith, my children spent many a happy hour in ‘The Argus Creche’, being cared for and entertained by a generous band of volunteer baby sitters* on Saturday afternoons in the Walter Best Hall. Well, we too are about to present the Argus Singers with an Argus grand-child. Sarah is due to have her first baby in October. Sadly, in the current circumstances we can’t see her and Nick but hopefully will be able to visit them before too long. Thank goodness for Facetime! Onwards and upwards! *Apologies if I have missed out any of our gallant band of helpers – please correct me if I have. Mary Patrickson Mrs Snowball Anne Newland Joyce Harris Joan Oakes Given that our planned 40th anniversary celebrations have had to change, and we're all stuck at home, I wondered if you would be interested in sending your memories (plus scanned photos, memorabilia if possible) of Argus Singers over the years so we could put together a "Argus Singers' 40th Anniversary Scrapbook" .
Since some of you have been in for the full two-score years there must be some material to work with :) It would also give us an objective to work toward - perhaps we could have it ready for the anniversary meal. What do you think? I'm happy to get material any which way:
